Hi there!
It's been a while since I did a fragrance review so let's do this!
Ill start of with a very popular fragrance that had some mixed reviews over the past months: Dior Sauvage.
Sauvage was released in September 2015 and was created by Francois Demachy. Of course there were a lot of expectations from the new release of Dior. Would it beat the almighty Dior Homme? Will it be as controversial as Dior homme intense?
To answer the questions above as plain and simple as possible: no!
Now don't get me wrong. The fragrance is quality, sophisticated and has decent lasting power. The scent itself is a little different then we all expected from a house like Dior. It's a safe release that pleases the masses. Is that bad? No of course not. Like I said above the juice is quality and the smell is nice, even nicer than nice. It opens with a blast of bergamot, spices and pepper. My initial thought was that it reminded me of "Blue de Chanel". Now you must understand that I'm not a huge fan of “Blue” but this one had me interested enough to just keep testing it and let it stay on my skin for a while. After a while I saw past the blue opening and when the scent settled down I got a nice aura around me that I felt was nicer than “Blue de Chanel” as in my opinion the quality Dior put in Sauvage is a little higher.
When time progresses I could tell the smell would be very linear throughout the whole lifespan of the fragrance. The scent feels fresh, soapy but at the same time a little smoky and it has a darker vibe going than “Blue de Chanel”.
So when do you wear this fragrance? Well It's up to you as this scent is pretty versatile. It's good for office use as it's not too overly aggressive and loud but It's also usable as a clubbing fragrance as its sillage and longevity is pretty decent. Don't expect monster longevity and projection but people will notice you.
The only downside is that this fragrance is overly popular and when you'll go clubbing there will be others rocking Sauvage. So if you want to stand out in the crowd go for something else, if you want to smell good and attractive and you just don't care what others are wearing then go for it.
So did Dior deliver on making a groundbreaking fragrance again? No not at all, but they made a quality fragrance that will please almost everybody and thus it will gather compliments like crazy.
Final ratings:
Longevity: 8/10
Projection: 7/10
Scent: 7.5/10
